Established in 2018, Girls Rugby sought to solve a number of problems by creating and providing a platform for young girls become athletes, leaders, and changemakers of tomorrow. Wanting to instill confidence and the core values of L.E.A.D.E.R.S. (Leadership, Empowerment, Achievement, Development, Enjoyment, Respect, Sportspersonship), the avenue to educate and empower was clear. Through the game of rugby, an inherently diverse and inclusive sport on a global scale, Girls Rugby delivers core values and skills to young girls all over the country.
As Girls Rugby began to expand, one presence they wanted to solidify was in Washington - the state needed girls rugby representation. With the sport as a whole taking off in popularity in recent years, it was necessary to allow young girls the same opportunities presented to other youth. Cue Chuckanut Bay Athletics Association and deWilde Rugby Fields. Through a partnership, it was determined that the Bellingham location would be run in conjunction with CBAA.
The CBAA has managed deWilde Fields for many years and received ownership of the acreage in 2018. With the fields being maintained and improved upon on a regular basis, Girls Rugby has an excellent home for their program and games. It serves as an enjoyable space that young girls and their families can create new memories at.
Erin Kennedy, CEO & Co-Founder of Girls Rugby, Inc. said this about the partnership:
“Girls Rugby is excited to partner with the CBAA to offer flag rugby programming for girls in the greater Chuckanut Bay area. This partnership will help to create more opportunities for young girls to fall in love with the game of rugby, while also empowering them to reach their potential and succeed both on and off the field."
